Link? Zelda? (Game-canon of your choice.)

Hm, I'm going to go with a vague OOT and onward. XD

Link

1.) If someone kidnaps or attacks a person that Link cares about, he will stop at nothing to save them. It's a pretty big part of the gameplays of WW, PH, TP, and SS, where the first leg of the journey is just him going to save his sister, Tetra, the village children, and Zelda respectively. He has no intention of fighting a greater evil until he learns that it will be necessary to rescue those people.

2.) Link is extremely adaptable. He picks up different fighting styles very quickly. XD He just has to find an item, and he can work it pretty well right off the bat. Not only that, but he's able to wander around in deserts, swamps, mountains, snowstorms, volcanoes, and crypts with minimal issues or changes in dress.

3.) Like Napoleon, Link has fantastic control over his sleep patterns. That's how he was able to stay awake for three days and nights straight in MM. Skyward Sword shows us that the very first Link possessed this ability, seeing as he could fall asleep at will on any bed he came across, and wake up after sleep for exactly the amount of time he wanted to.

4.) Link is not afraid of ghosts or the dead. He has fought against zombie-like beings, Phantom Gannon, and poes, all without batting an eye.

5.) Once Link has been sent out on an adventure, he can't just settle down again. He has to do some sort of adventuring. In OOT, we see him going on a quest to find Navi after Ganondorf has been killed. In WW, he joins the pirates in setting out to find a new world. In Skyward Sword, he spends the rest of his life with Zelda, rebuilding New Hyrule.

Zelda

1.) She is willing to try just about anything to keep Hyrule safe. In OOT, she tries to tell her father about her prophetic dreams, and is willing to accept help from a strange boy who wanders into the courtyard. In TP, she surrenders to Zant so that her people won't be killed. In ST, she gets over being body-snatched when she learns that she must help Link fight, and goes on to be extremely helpful.

2.) Unfortunately, Zelda tends to suffer from Cassandra Syndrome - no one believes her warnings about danger. Because of this, she has to take care of threats on her own.

3.) Zelda also tends to suffer from a lot of guilt. Even if a threat legitimately overwhelms her, she'll feel that it's all her fault and that she has failed her kingdom. This is part of the reason for the first point.

4.) Even though she seems very demure, Zelda is NOT a pushover. She is good-natured and kind, but does not surrender quietly.

5.) Zelda is married to her job as the ruler of Hyrule. She is so focused on running the kingdom that she doesn't give much thought to marriage. This is why Link is the only guy that she shows interest in for most of the games. The two meet and interact while fighting whatever is threatening Hyrule, so saving the land and bonding with him go hand-in-hand.

Hermione Granger from Harry Potter.

Forgive me if I seem incoherent. ^^; I'm a little out-of-it. XD

1.) Hermione is extremely good at memorizing details and facts, but not very good at freelancing or doing variations on them. In HBP, for example, she refuses to deviate from her book's instructions, even when it becomes obvious that Harry's alternate instructions yield better results. This is even before it becomes a case of her being jealous/unhappy with Harry's success. Inversely though, Hermione's near-encyclopedic knowledge of many different topics means that she usually knows something about what's going on. For example, in DH, Hermione's knowledge of wizarding wills is enough to reveal that there had been more going on with Dumbledore's will than the Minister of Magic was letting on.

2.) She is not so logical when it comes to issues that are directly concerning her. For example, she is able to tell Harry exactly what the issues with Cho are and how he should have handled the situations, but then handles her attraction to Ron less than gracefully.

3.) At the beginning of the series, Hermione was not very good at planning on the fly. Even if she could solve a problem, having it sprung on her suddenly would cause her to panic and forget what to do. For example, in SS, she is taken by surprise and doesn't know how to fight the cave troll, and forgets how to magically summon fire to ward off the Devil's Snare. By the end of the series, Hermione has managed to overcome this issue. Defining moment, I'd say, is when the trio escape Lovegood's house. The Death Eaters are closing in and they have to get out immediately, but Hermione quickly comes up with a plan that lets them escape, while confirming Lovegood's story that Harry was there (thus lowering the chances of him being attacked by the DEs) and hiding that she and Ron were there as well. There's also their kidnapping by the Snatchers, when Hermione thinks quickly and is able to hide her handbag in her sock, disguises Harry's face, and (while being tortured) comes up with a lie about where Gryffindor's sword came from.

4.) Maybe a bit moreso towards the start of the series, but Hermione is a bit insecure, which is part of the reason that she is so overzealous in her studies. She also is extremely gratified when her friends are appreciative of her knowledge. (For example, her reaction to being told that a spell she cast was NEWTS level and that someone found it very impressive)

5.) Hermione is not afraid to take action against people that anger her. She slaps Malfoy for insulting Hagrid, goes on her crusade against Rita Skeeter, and launches into her Dating Wars against Ron in HBP. Considering how cruel this gets, especially against Ron, this is not always a good thing. However it does also mean that she would not sit passively by and let Ron/Harry/Malfoy/whoever abuse her.

Selene from Underworld. :3

(no subject)

Date: 2012-07-19 02:10 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] zelda-queen.livejournal.com
I'm mostly going to be addressing her from the first movie, because I saw that the most. I only saw the sequel once, and never saw the third one at all. ^^;

1.) Selene is very determined to uncover conspiracies and to expose the truth. Throughout all of the first movie, no matter what anyone says to her, she does what she has to to get the truth out. She doesn't care if she looks crazy, she doesn't care if she's threatened, she doesn't care if she has to work with a random human guy.

2.) She is extremely loyal to those she cares about. In the first movie, we find out that the big reason Selene is a Death Dealer is because she is avenging her family's memory. We also see that Viktor is the one she trusts the most and is implicitly one of the few higher-ups she listens to because he "saved" her and took her in after her family died. When Michael proves himself to be a good friend and partner to her, she does whatever it takes to protect him.

3.) She doesn't much care about appearances. This kind of ties in to the first point, but it's implied that if Selene wanted to, she could be a high-class vampire lady. She's plenty attractive, is the favorite of Viktor, and has the affections of Kraven. She doesn't care about any of that though, and shoves it aside to uncover the lies going on.

4.) Selene can get a little too focused on things. Case in point, her getting stabbed in the shoulder and trying to ignore it in favor of driving away. Also, later on, she's so focused on the Lycans in the building that she fails to notice Michael getting kidnapped on the streets below.

5.) She can be completely merciless to anyone she doesn't care about. Attempts to kill all Lycans aside, in the climactic battle of the first movie, she sees her father-figure fighting her love interest. She just learned that said father-figure killed her family and lied to her about it. She calmly walks into the battle and slices off the head of the guy who took her in for a few centuries.

River Tam from Firefly.

1.) River is extremely innovative and imaginative. We see her love of dancing, but the movie shows us that she also applies her dancing to her fighting techniques, adapting the twirls and kicks so that she can knock out the bar patrons and Reavers.

2.) She hates being helpless and dependent on her brother and the crew of Serenity. She feels bad that her brother had to give up his promising medical career to look after her, and tries to protect him and the crew when they're in danger. This is most obvious in the climax of the movie ("You've taken care of me. You've always taken care of me. My turn."), but we also see it in Objects in Space (she saves Kaylee and instructs Mal on how to rid the ship of Early).

3.) Because of her damaged head, River doesn't always realize how the things she says will look to other people. For example, when the superstitious townsfolk are going to hang them and the mayor of the town is about to save them, River spouts off information about dirty dealings that the mayor was into. Not only does this not help at all, but it gives the mayor a reason to change his mind and agree to hang them. On a more humorous side, there is River's mixing up of a sister's love for a brother and a wife's love for a husband (when she tries to get Simon to marry her) and her fears that the preacher's vast amounts of hair will cause his head to cave in.

4.) River is a curious person. It ties in with her love of learning new things. Case in point, her constantly spying on members of the ship, and her cheerfully wondering about how childbirth works in "Heart of Gold".

5.) She is not the sort of person who lets herself be hurt or taken advantage of. In the very first episode, we find out that Simon knew to save her from the Academy because she wrote coded notes to him. In Ariel, she tries to distract the guards while working to free herself from handcuffs. It doesn't work, but the movie shows that it's a skill that she does know, and likely her failure to do it was tied to her mixed-up mental state. Her shining moment would be Objects in Space, where she keeps herself safe from Early from start to finish. She hides as soon as he gets on board, she stays hidden, and is thus able to turn the tables on him. Inara even says that there's no way Early could find River, unless she voluntarily revealed herself.

Ginny Weasley from Harry Potter. :)

From: [identity profile] zelda-queen.livejournal.com
(Most of this will be about Ginny in the later books, after her character development XD)

1.) Ginny takes after her mother a LOT. She does not put up with people trying to push her around, be it her brothers, Malfoy, or even Harry (for example, when Harry tried to keep her from taking part in the battle at the Ministry in OOTP, or the Battle of Hogwarts in DH).

2.) She is also fiercely protective of the people she loves. We see in the books that she is pissed when people bad-mouth her family, her friends, or her Quidditch team. When she is pleading to be allowed to fight in the Battle of Hogwarts, the reason she gives is because the rest of her family will be fighting, and she wants to help them.

3.) Ginny does not beat around the bush, but goes at problems directly. In HBP, when Ron is jealous that she has had many boyfriends while he has yet to have had any relationships, he tries to make his anger about her kissing a guy in the hallway. Ginny calls him out on it, says that she knows what he really is upset about, and tells him to just go and kiss some girls instead of taking it out on her. In OOTP, when Harry is being all emo, Ginny is the one who makes him sit down and logically think about whether or not he's being possessed. When he insists that she couldn't understand his paaaaaaain, she bluntly reminds him that she definitely had been possessed, and thus knows what it's like.

4.) She is very good at balancing different aspects of her life. We see that she is able to juggle dating, a social life, her schoolwork, Quidditch, and still is able to help out fighting Voldemort. In the epilogue and through Word of God, we also see that Ginny goes on to have both a fulfilling career and be a mother. In neither case do we see any indication that Ginny is stressed by this, or wants to drop any part of that.

5.) After going through the Chamber of Secrets, Ginny got to be very good at hiding when she is traumatized or upset about things. She hides any lingering trauma over being possessed by Voldemort, except for when she hints about it to Harry in OOTP. In HBP, she keeps it together when Harry breaks up with her, but Ron later says that she was "really cut up" about it. In DH, it's hinted that Ginny is really worried about what Harry, Ron, and Hermione are planning, but she hides it as best she can.

Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

From: [identity profile] zelda-queen.livejournal.com
1.) Katara totally has a maternal streak a mile wide. Of course, this also means that she's a huge Mama Bear, which is one of the reasons why she's so dangerous in combat. There are four to six people she's looking after, who have a tendency to get into fights. You don't mess with her family or friends.

2.) She also has some slight criminal tendencies. When the group is stealing Fire Nation clothes, she cheerfully calls dibs on an outfit she likes and runs off to get it, while everyone else is trying to get themselves to follow. There's also when she meets Hama and suggests that the woman use a fruit vendor's affections to get free food.

3.) In spite of the above, it takes a lot for her to do something seriously dangerous or harmful to another person. She resisted learning bloodbending for as long as she could, and was even uncomfortable at the thought of killing plants by pulling the water out of them. Her using bloodbending to track down her mother's murderer was meant to show how unnaturally ruthless and angry she was.

4.) Katara is very resourceful and clever. Just look at all the tricks she uses to use her waterbending in combat. Heck, look at how she beat Azula! Or, for a non-combat example, look at her idea to get herself and Toph into the party in Ba-Sing-Se.

5.) As maternal as she can be, Katara also has a playful side. She enjoys things like dancing, dressing up, or going to fancy parties.

Her I can do! 8D

1.) Azula is extremely intelligent. She is constantly planning ten steps ahead of everyone, using her brains to manipulate events and people to whatever she wants. She also is incredibly genre savvy, electrocuting Aang before he can go into Avatar state, among other things.

2.) As smart as she is though, Azula underestimates the chances of people acting "illogically" around her. She is so convinced that Mai will obey her out of fear that it never occurs to her that Mai would betray her to save Zuko. Immediately after, she was shocked that Ty Lee would betray her to save Mai.

3.) Azula is too emotionally damaged to properly form friendships or relationships with others. Her entire friendship with Mai and Ty Lee consisted of her threatening them into joining her on her quest.

4.) Deep down, Azula knows that her mother did love her. That was what the hallucination in the mirror symbolized. It was a manifestation of Azula's knowledge that her mother never considered her a monster. Because Azula built her vision of herself around that idea (that is, she defined herself with "My mother hated me because she thought I was evil"), she couldn't face the idea that it really was wrong and smashes the mirror to keep herself ignorant.

5.) Going off of that, Azula only keeps herself remotely sane through various "truths" in her head. Besides the "truth" that her mother hated her, there is the one that her friends really are loyal to her, or at least will never betray her. When that pillar is shattered, she begins to question everything else and, for Azula, that leads to becoming hostile towards everything.
