Pick a character and I will give and explain the top five ideas/concepts/etc I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to accurately depicting them. Any and all characters welcome ( including ones I haven't written but might know about...)

Date: 2012-07-09 04:00 am (UTC)1.) Ginny takes after her mother a LOT. She does not put up with people trying to push her around, be it her brothers, Malfoy, or even Harry (for example, when Harry tried to keep her from taking part in the battle at the Ministry in OOTP, or the Battle of Hogwarts in DH).
2.) She is also fiercely protective of the people she loves. We see in the books that she is pissed when people bad-mouth her family, her friends, or her Quidditch team. When she is pleading to be allowed to fight in the Battle of Hogwarts, the reason she gives is because the rest of her family will be fighting, and she wants to help them.
3.) Ginny does not beat around the bush, but goes at problems directly. In HBP, when Ron is jealous that she has had many boyfriends while he has yet to have had any relationships, he tries to make his anger about her kissing a guy in the hallway. Ginny calls him out on it, says that she knows what he really is upset about, and tells him to just go and kiss some girls instead of taking it out on her. In OOTP, when Harry is being all emo, Ginny is the one who makes him sit down and logically think about whether or not he's being possessed. When he insists that she couldn't understand his paaaaaaain, she bluntly reminds him that she definitely had been possessed, and thus knows what it's like.
4.) She is very good at balancing different aspects of her life. We see that she is able to juggle dating, a social life, her schoolwork, Quidditch, and still is able to help out fighting Voldemort. In the epilogue and through Word of God, we also see that Ginny goes on to have both a fulfilling career and be a mother. In neither case do we see any indication that Ginny is stressed by this, or wants to drop any part of that.
5.) After going through the Chamber of Secrets, Ginny got to be very good at hiding when she is traumatized or upset about things. She hides any lingering trauma over being possessed by Voldemort, except for when she hints about it to Harry in OOTP. In HBP, she keeps it together when Harry breaks up with her, but Ron later says that she was "really cut up" about it. In DH, it's hinted that Ginny is really worried about what Harry, Ron, and Hermione are planning, but she hides it as best she can.
