ZeldaQueen: Alrighty folks, we might as well take it slow getting back to the world of the House of Night. This was supposed to be lumped with my final thoughts on the book, but it wouldn't fit so we get it here! And just for you all, I've brought in Leah to help out!

Leah: You know, I was enjoying my break

ZeldaQueen: Well, all good things must come to an end. So yeah, together let's see how PC and Kristen Cast decided to best describe the plot of Marked

Projection Room Voices: Starting Media in 3...2...1...

Blurb

After a Vampire Tracker Marks

Leah: Its territory

ZeldaQueen: Hold on, "vampire"? Didn't Ms and Ms Cast insist on that stupid "vampyre" spelling? Ladies, consistency is your friend!

her with a crescent moon on her forehead, 16-year-old Zoey Redbird enters the House of Night and learns that she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess Nyx and has affinities for all five elements: Air, Fire Water, Earth and Spirit.

ZeldaQueen: In short, she's become an Uber-Sue of the highest class, for no reason at all. And how very nice that we're all just told how she has that affinity, since that was one of the lame things that was milked for conflict. I mean, it was stupid and obvious but it was conflict nonetheless, which this book sorely was lacking.

Leah: Maybe they could have spent some of the plot figuring out what "Fire Water" is and if it's anything like "Fire" and "Water" with commas

But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers.

ZeldaQueen: And that can not be tolerated, as there can only be one Head Sue

When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite club, is mis-using her Goddess-given gifts,

ZeldaQueen: Erm, how was Aphrodite "mis-using" them? Okay, she was hiding them which was a cruel thing to do, but it was established that she wasn't lying or using her powers to actively cause new destruction. Is it a stipulation that the High Priestess must use her powers for the good of other people? Because if not, then ignoring visions is dickish but not misuse, as they're her powers and there's no rules for proper use of them.
A note to Ms and Ms Cast - this is why giving a better idea of how your made-up world works really helps with your story!

Leah: Pfft, anyone who does anything that the Sue Doesn't Approve Of is automatically misbehaving, even if they're not actually doing something wrong

ZeldaQueen: Hmm, you're right. Look at how poor Kayla was treated

Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny—

ZeldaQueen: What courage? There was no danger at all! She didn't have to train to use her powers and she was safe in the circle, so there was no danger at that stupid climax of the ghosts attacking her! And Aphrodite was the worst Mean Girl I've ever seen, so there's certainly no danger from there!

Leah: *cough*BreakingDawn*cough*

ZeldaQueen: Need some water there?

Leah: No, just had a Suethor-sized loogie in my throat. I think I got rid of it

with a little help from her new vampyre friends

Leah: *sings* She gets high with a little help from her friends!

ZeldaQueen: She doesn't, trust me. The Cast ladies think that marijuana use is one of the worst things a person could do

Leah: ...You serious?

ZeldaQueen: I'll bring you in for the Betrayed sporkings so you can see some of the rants

Leah: I'll take your word for it

ZeldaQueen: *glances back at Media* God, and "vampyre minions" is more like it. That pack seriously reminded me of five even nuttier Renfields

(or Nerd Herd, as Aphrodite calls them).

Leah: *raises eyebrows*

ZeldaQueen: ...Okay, did she ever call them that in the book? I honestly don't remember that phrase coming up at all.

Leah: Even if she did, what was the purpose of that?

ZeldaQueen: I don't know! To show how nasty Aphrodite is? All it does is ruin the mood they were going for! That's like farting at the end of a eulogy! How can you take that seriously? You can't!

ZeldaQueen: Alrighty, that's it!

Leah: Seriously? Damn, that's shorter than Gethesemane's bullshit

ZeldaQueen: Well, don't get too comfortable. There's going to be a lot of stuff going on soon

Leah: Great. I'm going to take a nap

So, they've outright said their character is a Mary Sue. Yet, so many people don't see this. Wait... the people who do see it use Mary Sue as a literary critisism term, the ones that don't see it as an insult thrown around to dampen writing spirits.

And it's almost like they can't wait to tell us how big of a Mary Sue she is, seeing as they spoil it on the back cover and all.

Makes me think you should look at the back covers of the mother's other books to see what that says about her other books.

I'm seriously considering it. I just need to see if my local library has any. ^_^

Oh gosh, this thing is just... kinda pathetic, actually.

"That's like farting at the end of a eulogy" made me laugh :D

I can't wait for you to dig into Betrayed.

I know. I hate how it builds the book up like some epic adventure, and most of it is actually Zoey sitting around, talking about boobies and how hot guys are. -_-

XD I'm glad you liked it. That's honestly the first analogy that came to mind.

Oh ho ho, that one will be a treat. >_< The Cast ladies continue to rack up on the fanfiction cliches and...well, you'll see in a few days. ;)

Nerd Herd? HEY. LEAVE THADDEUS AND THE GUYS OUT OF THIS. I LOVE THOSE BOOKS.

While I do realise that it's probably a very general term, it really has no relevance. There is no point to it being tacked on there. It really does set the tone for the rest of the book though...

I swear she *doesn't* even use it in that book! I think she uses it for the first time in the third book. O_o

"She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess Nyx and has affinities for all five elements: Air, Fire Water, Earth and Spirit."

Fire Water? So... The elements are Air, Earth, Spirit and Booze, then?
