Tell me you want to play and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. Then update your journal and answer the following questions:

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

I was given Harry Potter, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and The Legend of Zelda!

Harry Potter

1. Well, I first got into the books when I was in middle school. My grandmother got the first two for me, and my mom read them to my brother and I before bed. I read the rest on my own. I didn't get into the fandom itself until sometime after Order of the Phoenix was released. So yes, I just missed that three-year summer thing.
2. I'm kind of moving on already. I'm not out of it entirely, and I'll always love Harry Potter, but I'm not as involved in it as I once was.
3. The first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
4. Not so much now, but I did used to write fanfiction and get into discussions on IMDb. I also followed the shenanigans of DrakeMadEyeWeasley while there, if that counts...
5. Yeah, although I think they should be prepared to love or hate some parts of the fandom. ^^;

Avatar: The Last Airbender

1. Believe it or not, it was the a combined effort
of Jackie Diaz (author of How I Became Yours) and that fucking movie M. Night Shamalan did. I read about both, heard how pissed off the fans were, and wondered how the series really was. And so, I began watching.
2. Definitely stay, especially with The Legend of Korra coming out!
3. The multi-part finale. We get the cast all being awesome, we get everyone finding their friends, family, spouses, boyfriends/girlfriends, and so on, we get signs that things will be turning for the better, and it's just fantastic! The only thing I wish is that we got some actual resolution on what happened to Zuko's mother.
4. No, actually. If sporkings count though, I will be.
5. Oh most definitely! :D

The Legend of Zelda

1. I started in when I was in fifth grade, which was when I rented Ocarina of Time from the local video store. A few years later, I joined a video game forum and got more involved in the fandom.
2. *glances at Skyward Sword* I'm a-staying!
3. Um...gah. Just pick one? :( Erm, I'll have to split my answer with Ocarina of Time (first one I played, and really was influential to me), Majora's Mask (just fantastic, creepy, loved it!), Twilight Princess (loved the graphics, the world, and Midna), and Skyward Sword (great use of items, very nice innovative world-building, and Fi wasn't too bad, aside from reminding me that I had three hearts left)
4. Between the fanfiction, the My Inner Life thing, and the animated movie I'm still trying to get made, I'd say yes.
5. Oh heck yeah!

It really wasn't even a "feminist" work. Both Toph and Azula were planned to be males (hence why the first season shadowed earthbender and firebender were men) but after the HUGE female fan base appeared, the creators decided to change that and added and expanded a LOT of female roles. (Same thing with Suzi, she was supposed to be a one off character, it was fan devotion that got her back.)

It's also why Korra is a girl. They figured since they had a mostly female fanbase they might as well have a female hero. I think they're missing what fangirls really like (*cough* Zuko *cough*) but it's still going to be cool.

I have issues with Avatar (mostly with Aang, I never got into him as a character) but it was a very well written, intelligent, and thoughtful show that had a GREAT universe attached to it. They did a great job of making the universe feel real.

My biggest complaint in the end was how we were given a happy ending when I felt they had an entire seasons worth of issues to work out. (Mostly among Aang trying to obtain actual peace once the war is over and Zuko dealing with the overall hate felt for the fire nation.) But maybe the new series will address that.

It has flaws in my mind but is a great series nonetheless.

I know about all that, but they did change them to women, and rolled with it, and had some great interactions come about because of it. They acknowledged it on the Season 3 DVD set, and since the end result was a bunch of strong women being awesome, that's good enough for me.

O.o I knew about Toph, but the firebender in the beginning is a dude? I seem to remember it clearly having Azula's little out-of-place hair strands, but maybe I need to watch again. Or was that originally supposed to be a guy, and Azula just ended up looking like him?

As with Harry Potter, I'm glad they didn't work out all the issues. That would have felt too neat and tidy. Of course the whole world didn't instantly get fixed when Ozai was dethroned, or Voldemort kicked it, just like the whole world didn't instantly fix itself when Hitler died. Having all the issues worked out would have been super unrealistic.

It had some flaws in my mind too, mostly with pacing and one-shot episodes that went nowhere, but overall, it's one of the best written serieses I've ever seen, second only to Arrested Development, maybe third to Firefly.

I believe the first season firebender was a guy then second season became Azula because I knew Azula was planned as a guy.

But I didn't mean it as a negative. I mean it wasn't aimed at being feminist so it was (to me) more feminist because of it. They weren't trying to make a message but tell a story with strong characters and some just happened to be women.

I was fine with the issues at the end I'd just like to explore it. I'd love to see a show/book that explored the aftermath. I think it would be fascinating to have Aang turn from the warrior he was forced to become into the diplomat he sees himself and struggling to find balance between the two. And Zuko earning the respect of his people who for years saw him as a exiled prince. (Plus maybe SELL the Katara/Aang relationship. I never bought it and wouldn't mind seeing them together as a couple to see if it would have won me over.)

*a la Professor Farnsworth* Good news! Dark Horse seems to be publishing a comic about just that! http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2011/02/avatar-the-last-airbender-from-dark-horse-and-nickelodeon/
