I've noticed that, I just didn't want to say it was only Japanese humor, in case it wasn't. It reminds me a lot of a TV series I like, from Japan, called Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. Panty's panties transform into a semi-automaic pistol while Stocking's stockings turn into twin Katana's. Though, they don't really downplay much of the "panty humor" and I think it'd still be for older teens or adults. (I love that show XD)
It's sometimes a shock to Americans, Australians, so on so forth, that, in a Manga or TV series, you can see a girl wearing ony a T-shirt and her underwear whilst sleeping. (Or, at least, it shocked my brother a little when he picked up a few different Anime books from a new store in our poor, small town) It would would be rated M if it were in a movie or on TV here in New Zealand.
