Actually, they did some edits for the show. In the book it's based on, they never actually say when the Phantom's son was conceived, though it's implied it happened when the Phantom first took Christine down to his lair — you know, after she fainted. Also, the villain was this guy Darius who the Phantom picked up as an errand boy, who was hoping to inherit the Phantom's millions until Christine and the little boy arrived.
