Regarding her assertion that males can get away with wish fulfillment and author insertion... umm... heard of Eragon, much? Sure, it has it's fans, but anyone with an inkling of writing talent criticizes it for being a bland, plagaristic, poorly written wish fulfillment, with an obvious Mary Sue (or Marty Stu, Gary Stu, whatever) as the main character.
So, no. Guys don't get away with poor writing either. It's just that the VAST majority of fiction being criticized at this grassroots level (ie FF.net, LJ, etc.) are women and younger girls. And a couple of fanfics that have been sporked mercilessly, with "Mary Sue' thrown around like confetti on New Years, were written by guys: Rose Potter and Hogwart's Exposed.
I guess I can't really understand or support her point, given the evidence against.
