I love how the essay is so gender specific. Is it horribly misogynistic if people spork male Sues? Or if the author is a man who wrote one?
The problem is, I don't think the author has a clear idea of what "Mary Sue" really is connotative of. I think the implication is that if a female character is at all strong, it's belittling to call her a Sue. But the point is, it's quite easy to make female characters who aren't Sues. People do it all of the time.
"The point kind of degenerated from there until the point basically comes down to "We're allowed to write whatever the hell we want and you guys are allowed to SHUT UP." Nice way to alienate everybody who just wants to do their own thing."
That's the other thing - her essay essentially falls down to telling people what they can and can't do in their spare time, about works they don't like. So far as I know, sporkers don't go to the people who write those fics and go "Looky at what I did!" Maybe some do, but I don't know about it.
