I do feel sorry for Zyn. And you're right, I don't really get a sense of their relationship, so I don't know what Stouffer's talking about when she notes "the closeness they'd always shared." What closeness? When Zyn was teasing and laughing at Rah? When Zyn was jealous of Rah, because he's the blond-haired, blue-eyed protagonist whom everybody glorifies?
I mean, it's nice to see that Zyn does care about Rah enough to freak out when Rah falls unconscious (thereby showing that he hasn't completely gone off the deep end yet) and apologize beforehand, but all I've really seen is a much milder and less violent Cain and Abel relationship between them.
And that wooden box is never mentioned again? If the pirate story was meant to lead into the treasure hunt which ultimately didn't really have that much significance, then...what was the point?
