If I remember rightly, Dark Link's first (RL chronological) appearance was as the Very Final Boss of Zelda II. He was hard, though admittedly a lot of it was artificial difficulty because you had to burn a good 3/4 of your magic containers in your last fight.
Though I doubt that Jenna Silverspoon ever played the NES games.
