"Does this series have an Aphrodite-esque character to root for, at least?"
The closest there is, as far in as I've read, is Rhiannon, and that's purely because of how horribly she's treated. PC also treats her as a cross between Neferet and Aphrodite - she's a raging bitchwhore who is also spoiled and selfish and nearly destroys the world messing around with dark forces she doesn't understand (because God forbid we have a female villain who's competent) and who is still fully blamed for her actions, even though it's made clear just what a shitty life she's had.
(Seriously, we'll hear about it in the next book, but what happened to Rhiannon is TERRIBLE. And Shannon knows it and the attitude all around is just, "Well yes, that sucked, but she still needs to take responsibility and accept that she is doing Bad Things. Which... I know normally I get angry with media for using a flimsy backstory trauma to excuse villainy, but this just goes too far in the opposite direction and doesn't give her ANY sympathy for what she went through!)
"Anyway, Zelda, I salute you. *salutes* If you have any questions about Celtic mythology, just ask me. Having read the entire House of Night series, I have no doubt PC will fuck it up. -_-"
Thank you! Yeah, my knowledge about Celtic mythology is lacking compared to Greek or Japanese mythology, so I'm probably going to miss some things. Feel free to comment about those points, because I love learning mythology and knowing when suethors are screwing it up. XD
Oh, who's your icon? If that's Rhiannon... er, I'm terribly sorry.
