The sad thing is, at some points in time, it actually seems necessary. I don't know if you read Mervin's sporking of the Twilight FAQ, but one of those questions was actually who the "hunter" in the prologue of Twilight was. Keep in mind that when the story gets back to that part, Meyer actually copies and pastes the prologue, only calling James "the tracker" this time.
Or, there's the FAQ question about whether or not Edward turned Bella into a vampire at the end of the first book. After all of his "I won't and never will"s. Really.
