/I could understand if the girl started to have a change of heart after the guy turned round. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite Disney movies, after all. But the girl falls in love with him while he's treating her like crap, and what's worse, is that people are eating up and squealing over it./

Exactly. What people seem to miss about "Beauty and the Beast" (which is my favorite Disney movie by the way) and "Pride and Prejudice" is that the female leads only start to fall for the male leads *after* they've grown up and changed. Belle didn't fall for the Beast when he was attacking furniture and yelling at her. Elizabeth didn't swoon over Mr. Darcy when he was being rude and arrogant to her. Yet Bella Swan and Nora Grey fall for Edward and Patch respectively when both of those men are being extremely horrible to them.

/I also hate the I'm honest about the fact that I do horrible things/I'm a jerk line. You're still a jerk and still doing horrible things. That line only works for me if the person is actively trying to atone for their mistakes. If not, the guy being honest about being a jerk can't claim moral superiority./

*This,* in spades. If a character knows that he's a jerk and does nothing about it, then all he's doing is whining or boasting to get attention.
