Sadly, it doesn't even serve as as much of a motivator as you might think. It takes an entire other freaking book for Zoey to get anything resembling aid to Stevie Rae. -_-

There's also the fact that biting a human causes a release of endorphins, which means that the humans ENJOY being sucked dry. We see Heath actively cutting himself because he likes the feeling when Zoey drinks from him. And all we have is "Oh yeah, vampires totally know when to stop", but I find that hard to be of much comfort, really...
