As somebody who has spent a lot of time in therapy (several different ones, because every time I moved, I had to find a new therapist, obviously), it wouldn't seem inappropriate for me that the therapist asked Nora if she had a boyfriend. I know that in my intake interviews, I got asked about pretty much all the important relationships in my life. Now, the "Why don't you have a boyfriend? You're pretty," thing strikes me as just gross. (I remember having one therapist ask me, when I was single, if I was happy/content with being single, and that didn't bother me; again, it seemed like a "okay, this person needs to know where my life is right now" question. But the question as it's asked in this book strikes me as really, really wrong.)
