I think the reasoning is that summoning the elements is a spiritual/mental thing and not physical, and in this crazy world physical = masculine.
I don't think Nyx blesses girls more, but she seems to give them the cooler powers if this is anything to go by. I can understand the idea of her favoring women since the society is a matriarchy, but I don't get why everybody just is of exactly the same mindset and thinks that Nyx is so awesome and the vampire world is so great. I mean, we had the feminist movement because people looked at society and saw how unfair things were. By that logic, shouldn't there be at least a few people who protest the double standards?
