/No straight men are ever written as being that quiet or submissive or vulnerable. Inversely, so far as I know, there aren't any gay men in this series who are portrayed as showing traditional masculine traits like being dominant, physically powerful, or otherwise holding a commanding presence./
You're not the only one bothered by this. This is homophobic, sexist, and stereotypical. Portrayals like this of straight men and gay men only serve to perpetuate harmful ideas such as the belief that any guys who don't fit into the stereotypically masculine role must be gay, the stereotype that gays are all feminine wusses, and the insidious conclusion that women and femininity are shameful and undesirable since any men perceived to have "feminine" traits are immediately scorned and derided as "girly" and "unmanly."
