In Which I Do A Meme: Shipping And Fandoms List
Taken from gehayi!
Pick a number from the list and I'll (try to) answer it in the comments.
1 - Your current OTP. If you don't have an OTP, one of your favorite characters.
2 - A pairing or fandom you initially didn't consider but someone changed your mind.
3 - A pairing or character you have never liked and probably never will.
4 - A pairing or character you wish you liked but just can't.
5 - Have you added anything stupid/cracky/hilarious to your fandom? If so, what?
6 - What's the longest you've ever been in a fandom?
7 - Do you remember your first OTP? If so, who was in it?
8 - Do you prefer characters/pairings from live-action series or anime series?
9 - Has the Internet caused you to stop liking any fandoms? If so, which one(s) and why?
10 - Name a fandom you didn't care/think about until you saw it all over your social network sites.
11 - Do you get involved with fans and fandom? Or do you just focus on the works that you like?
12 - Your favorite fan artist/author allows you to request one work from him/her. What do you ask for?
13 - Your favorite fanart or fan artist. (I'll settle for "one of your favorites.")
14 - Your favorite fanfiction or fan author. (I'll settle for "one of your favorites.")
15 - Choose a song at random. Which character or pairing does it remind you of?
16 - Invent a random AU for any fandom. (We always need more ideas.)
17 - A ship or fandom that you've abandoned, and why.
18 - A pairing you ship that you don't think anyone else ships. (If you don't ship much, then pick a fandom that you love but that you don't think anyone else is aware of. Small fandoms always need more love.)
19 - Show us an example of your personal head canon.
20 - Do you remember what your first fanwork was?
21 - Self-rec: What's your favorite fanwork you've created?
22 - Are you one of those fans who can't watch anything without shipping?
23 - Five favorite characters from five different fandoms.
24 - Three OTPs from three different fandoms. (And if you don't have that many OTPs, then just talk about three pairings that you like in three different fandoms.)
25 - A fandom that you're in but that you have no ships from.
26 - Ask me a fandom-related question NOT listed above.

I've never stopped liking any fandom in its entirety. That being said, the various Internet arguments and such things made me much less fond of Harry Potter than I once was. I've just taken to avoiding the fandom in general by now, in favor of other fandoms.
"Your favorite fanart or fan artist. (I'll settle for "one of your favorites.")"
This would be a "one of your favorites", and it's TheLostHype of DeviantArt. She (erm...assuming it's a she ^^; ) does fancomics of Axis Powers Hetalia, specifically ones that center around "FACE" (France, America, Canada, & England family unit). She recently finished an ongoing comic about America and Canada having all of the nations engage in an epic water gun fight, and she's currently illustrating a Hetalia-style retelling of the War of 1812, as well as an illustrated adaptation of "Feverish" (one of my favorite fanfictions). Her drawing style is adorable and very well done, she handles humor and seriousness beautifully, and knows how to pace her stories. She also regularly updates, which is a big plus. ^^

"14 - Your favorite fanfiction or fan author. (I'll settle for "one of your favorites.")"
I'm going to do two of my favorites here, both for Axis Powers Hetalia again (erm...three guesses as to what my current favorite anime is XD)
First is Gemini Star01. She does a lot of stories that focus on America and Canada, usually with something playing into their relationship as brothers (which I'm a sucker for). Her fics tend to have a good bit of darkness to them, and she puts an admirable amount of effort into research, from the mythology usage in "White Winter" to the Mengele twin experiments in "The Awakening". She also is currently doing a three-part visual novel for Hetalia, which is also fantastic!

Second is Speaking Through Written Words, who I love because he came up with the Hearth universe. Basically, his Hearth world is what you get if you decided to make all of Hetalia happen in a single remote village, have the characters be all just as batty as in canon, add in a healthy dose of headcanon and OCs (both of which work very well) and a dash of inspiration from the show "Eureka". The first three fics are loosely based off of Shakespeare plays (The Comedy of Errors, Much Ado About Nothing, and All's Well that Ends Well), with another series of Hearth one-shots and a prequel. He also does one-shot requests.

Beauty and the Beast: Belle/Beast
Tangled: Rapunzel/Flynn
Hunchback of Notre Dame: Esmeralda/Phoebus
Hetalia: Germany/Italy, Finland/Sweden, Hungary/Austria
Doctor Who: Amy/Rory
Fruits Basket: Tohru/Kyo
Iron Man (film): Pepper/Tony
Across the Universe: Amy/Elder
I tend to be fond of fluffy or snarky OTPs, if it's not obvious. XD
"17 - A ship or fandom that you've abandoned, and why."
I'd say Rose/Doctor, from Doctor Who. I was fine with it when it was a cross between ship tease and a close friendship, but then it started to become a bit too much of the focus of the series. I also liked Rose plenty, but I couldn't stop thinking "All of the people the Doctor has met in time and space, and this random girl from Earth is the one that he can't get over?" Not to mention that Rose started to get rather bitchy/possessive (at least in my opinion ^^; ) and the whole ship just wasn't much fun. ^^;
"18 - A pairing you ship that you don't think anyone else ships. (If you don't ship much, then pick a fandom that you love but that you don't think anyone else is aware of. Small fandoms always need more love.)"
Well, I think everyone ships everything, given the state of ff.net. To go for a smaller fandom I love, I'll go with A Knight's Tale. I know it's got a small pool of fans, but it's all silly good fun and deserves more love. Plus, it's got Canterbury Tales references, which makes me go all squee! XD
On the Literature end, I'll pull up The Night Circus, by Erin Morganstern, and Across the Universe by Beth Revis. Both are fantastic in their own way. The first book in particular left me on this buzz, like I was involved in something really mystical and magical. It was amazing.
For anime, I'd go with Project ARMS. It's a great sci-fi manga with all sorts of philosophical themes and the ultimate triumph of humanity over artificial life, and it needs more love! ^_^

As for the Rose/Doctor. I am still shipping that but it's more of a Rose/Nine ship than anything. I did enjoy it as like a deep friendship with romantic undertones. As for why she was special though, I always figured it's because she brought him back from the brink. Like Nine was so tortured and cold but Rose helped him rediscovery his "humanity", for lack of better word. Still, like I said, I've only seen a handful of Ten episodes and haven't seen her leave yet so...yeah. I know that his obsessing over her after she left did ruin her in a lot of fans eyes.
Those sound interesting, especially the sci-fi manga, I might check it out.

At least the way canon is now, Lichtenstein/Switzerland, from Axis Powers Hetalia. I love the characters individually. I adore their interactions as brother and sister. But, like I think I mentioned before, Liechtenstein in the series is a little kid who continuously refers to Switzerland as "big brother" and has the same reliance on him that a child has on a parent. It's a little too much.
"4 - A pairing or character you wish you liked but just can't."
The Nostalgia Critic and the Nostalgia Chick. I know there's ship tease out the wazoo and it can be hilarious, but I just can't fully ship it. For starters, those characters, like most of the cast of Channel Awesome, are played up as insane people who hate the world and more often than not screw each other over. Again, it's hilarious, but I try to think of any of the characters in a steady relationship and just can't. The other reason is that the various actors on the site give out information on their personal lives, and I know that Doug Walker is now happily married and that Lindsy and Todd are dating. I'm aware that the Critic and the Chick are fictional characters, but I still feel guilty about shipping them. It feels like I'm butting in and telling them who they ought to be with, when they're already happy with someone. (Um...if that makes sense ^^; )
"16 - Invent a random AU for any fandom. (We always need more ideas.)"
I'm going to do Hetalia here (it's the only one I have an AU already thought of for), but if you want to request a specific fandom, I'll do that also, if possible. ^^; This idea was taken from a premise for a fic I wanted to write awhile back.
During WWII, Germany is sent by his boss to find the Holy Grail, like in canon. Here though, he begins searching Finland's place and apparently finds the thing. In actuality it isn't the Holy Grail. It's the Sampo (a vaguely-described, mystical item from a Finish epic), but Germany doesn't know this and takes it back. The Sampo is able to produce an unknown fuel substance, and Nazi scientists use it to create a weapon known as the Die Glock. This, in turn, sets off a chain reaction as the other nations appropriate the newly-developed technology, and ends with them all eventually taking the war into space. While the various nations use sci-fi technology to fight one another, the Nordic countries try to recover the Sampo, as they're the only ones who know exactly what it is.
"25 - A fandom that you're in but that you have no ships from."
Eh...hm. I'm not hugely in the fandom for it, but I'd say Sucker Punch would be closest. I really have no ships for it, at least. ^^;

I'll give two. The first would be Avatar: The Last Airbender. I didn't really give it much thought until I saw the massive outcry online over the live action movie (and, to a lesser degree, over Jackie Diaz's How I Became Yours, on TV Tropes). It got me curious about what the series *really* was about, and thus I got into it. ^^
The second is Axis Powers Hetalia. I saw a link to a dark fic on the Nightmare Fuel page of TV Tropes and read it, and followed it well enough. I got curious about the premise, and started looking up clips and stuff. And...yeah. XD
"15 - Choose a song at random. Which character or pairing does it remind you of?"
Um...I really can't think of a song that makes me think of a character or pairing. ^^;; The Maasaki Endoh cover of Uninstall makes me think of most anime fight scnes, if that counts. ^^;
(You can hear it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ssBtJ4Jx7c)
"19 - Show us an example of your personal head canon."
Um...I have a lot of headcanon. XD I'll do two fandoms here, but if you want to request any for a specific fandom, I'll give that as well.
Axis Powers Hetalia:
- There is no "Mommy Native America". Each Native American tribe has its own personification
- North Korea is not an evil twin to South Korea. He's a nice guy who is confused by the bizarre orders his bosses constantly give him. Because he's forbidden from seeing his brother or any other personifications though, he has no one to tell him how screwed up his boss is. Thus, he assumes that the orders are fine and he's just mixed up, and does what he's told.
- Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia do not have their own personifications, because they aren't separate nations. The US Confederacy does, because the south did temporarily make themselves a new nation..
----
Sucker Punch:
- All of the girls in the asylum really were insane, except for Sweet Pea. That's why Sweet Pea was the only one concerned with Babydoll's escape plan and tried to put a lot of thought into her actions, while everyone else just sort of ran ahead.
- Sweet Pea and Rocket were committed without their parents' knowledge. That's why Sweet Pea went along with the plan to escape alone, even though she was abandoning her sister (Word of God was that no one actually was killed). She was going to get her parents to find Rocket and get her safely out of the asylum.
- The lobotomy did not actually leave Babydoll a vegetable. On the Headscratchers page of TV Tropes, it was noted that there were lobotomized people who lived normal lives after the procedure. Babydoll retreated into herself after the procedure and, with Blue and her Stepfather arrested and no one left to harass her, she can make her recovery at her own rate.
- Blue's talk about how he was in charge and forged lots of signatures was a lot of bull. He was insane himself, suffering from delusions of grandeur. He believed himself to be more powerful than he really was, when he really was low on the totem pole.
- In the real world (asylum), the dances were actually the girls' therapy sessions. Blue and the orderlies got off on watching them, which is why Babydoll interpreted them as being very provocative. That's also why Sweet Pea criticized Babydoll for doing something generic and impersonal ("all the gyrating and moaning, is that supposed to be titillating?"). In real-world terms, she's saying "If you don't take the therapy sessions seriously and just give a meaningless performance, you're not going to be helped."

"23 - Five favorite characters from five different fandoms."
I'm not sure if that's five characters per fandom, or five characters total. Seeing as I love me characters, I'll just do the former. No particular order to these lists, btw! ^^
Harry Potter:
1.) Harry Potter
2.) Ron Weasley
3.) Hermione Granger
4.) Ginny Weasley

Avatar: The Last Airbender
1.) Toph
2.) Katara
3.) Sokka
4.) Zuko
5.) Iroh
With Azula, Mai, Ty Lee, Aang and Suki getting honorable mentions, because I have so many favorites for this fandom! >_<
Avatar: The Legend of Korra
1.) Korra
2.) Asami
3.) Lin
4.) Bolin
5.) Amon
Axis Powers Hetalia
1.) Germany
2.) Italy
3.) England

Awk, I usually don't keep track. ^^; Probably Harry Potter, especially since that really was the first time I was in a fandom.
"21 - Self-rec: What's your favorite fanwork you've created?"
I'd say it's a toss-up between Zelda of the Sun, Zelda of the Moon (Legend of Zelda femgen fic) and The Brothers, The Bear, and Winter (Axis Powers Hetalia, non-sexual kink meme fill). I was very satisfied with how the writing style for the former turned out, but I ran out of time to use a lot of ideas that I had in mind. For the later, I felt like I lost the lyrical fairy-tale writing style I was going for, but I got the whole thing done (surprising, for my stories XD) and I was able to include all of the plot elements and canon tie-ins I wanted to do.
You can read them here, btw ;)
