/Everyone goes "Dur...what?" and Stevie Rae says that hubris is "having godlike arrogance". I have to ask, have none of these kids had vocabulary tests? Because I'm pretty darned sure that I knew what "hubris" meant when I was in high school./

Yes, and in Greek mythology, hubris is seen as such a crime because it's arrogance to the point of *insulting* gods. Ex. Arachne boasting that she was a better weaver than Athena, Niobe bragging about being better than Leto because Leto only had two children while Niobe had twelve, etc. Zoey and her friends are not gods, so if the Casts were trying to make the connection there, they didn't do a very good job of it.

As far as the Casts' mythology fail, I have to admit that Eros's origins are confusing. Most versions have him as the son of Aphrodite. Other versions do have him as a son of Chaos, created along with Gaia and the rest of the universe. However, in my opinion, that version of Eros is more of a force of nature and the actual personification of Love, rather than the person. I don't know, that's just my idea. *shrugs*

And yes, Eros was the god of *sexual* love. In fact, the word "erotas" in Ancient Greek refers to the sexual side of love, a.k.a. desire. So, while Erin's reaction was appropriate, the Casts should have been more specific with Eros's role, rather than just saying that he was the god of love, which is too general.

/They reply that he's really "prudey", "[e]specially for a gay boy"./

Oh, yeah, because gay guys are all a bunch of lustful nymphomaniacs who can't go a day without getting laid. *sarcasm*

Why is Damien friends with these people again?

And wasn't it just the last chapter that Zoey made it clear that she was surprised that he wasn't really a "girly type?" Yes, I can truly see how this book promotes understanding and respect toward the gay community. *rolls eyes*

/Oh, and apparently there are other gay guys, but they're "mostly too weird and girly for him"./

Because there is no such thing as an overly masculine gay guy. No, they're all twittering, effeminate drama queens who prance around in makeup. *headdesk*
