I haven't read this book (nor will I ever!!), but I enjoy the sporking of foul narcissistic wankage (such as the 'Harry Potter' series) or the glorification of female stupidity and male abuse (such as the 'Twilight' series). This book apparantly falls under the latter.
Still...
Okay... So Patch is a creepy jerk, and apparantly he is the same creepy jerk that mindraped Chauncey in the prologue, which makes him a 'supernatural' creepy jerk (since he's been around for at least four centuries).
So he's a fallen angel. Fallen angels are *demons* (remember Lucifer?), so his ability to attract-while-creeping-out isn't all that surprising. That's what demons are famed for, after all. 'The devil made me do it', etc.
So, since Patch (am I revealing my age when I say that the name reminds me of nothing but Dudley Moore's 'Patch the Elf' in 'Santa Claus The Movie'?) is a demon, it isn't surprising that he can 'arrange' things, such as sitting next to his victim in biology/sex ed class. He's the ultimate Svengali, right? He can MAKE 'Coach' deaf and blind to whatever Nora says. He can theaten, bully and rape Nora and STILL she would think him 'irresistable' simply because he mindfucks with people.
So far, this story makes sense.
The problem (I surmise, since I haven't actually read this book, but I'm willing to bet MY laptop that this is so) is not that Patch is a jerk, and that Nora is strangely attracted to the creep who, well, creeps her out. The problem is (again, I surmise) that it is stated nor implied anywhere in this book that this is due to Patch mindfucking with her, and that this is actually WRONG and CREEPY. The problem is that this plot, which is essentially a standard horror story, is presented as Teh Ultimate Romance, which is just plain scary!!
So please tell me that I'm wrong. Please tell me that at the the end of the book Nora realises that she has been fucked around with by an demon and, I dunno, she sprinkles him with holy water or something ("I'm melting! I'm melting!!").
