The italics reminded me of one of my favourite books ("Emily Climbs") where the heroine (an aspiring writer) is told off by her teacher for overusing them ("Mr. Carpenter says I use far too many italics. He says it is an Early Victorian obsession, and I must strive to cast it off."). Yes, she uses italics in her diary entries quite a lot; however, it seems humorous, and, as Montgomery puts in the narrative, "Emily's "diary," with all its youthful crudities and italics, really gives a better interpretation of her and of her imaginative and introspective mind, in that, her fourteenth spring, than any biographer, however sympathetic, could do."
(Huh. A sue-fic reminding me of something good... that's not something that happens every day.)
About the self-plagiarism thing - I'm so not kidding about that. The similarities are mostly between that Susan/Caspian fic and the third chapter of this one. The opening and the ending of chapter 3 of "Unexpected Love" is different, but for the most part it's basically C&P'd down to the formatting - italics and all.
