I think the prince was originally named Harry, and probably meant to be English. His name is Indian and he's definitely too dark to be definitely white and too pale to be definitely black. Fan theory is that his parents were from the royal families of two different nations, since Facilier says "You've come from too long lines of royalty".

The heck of it is, Disney made him ambiguous on purpose, so people could choose whichever they liked best. Of course, people chose what they hated most.
