*sigh*

First of all, what's this crap about "based on classic Mediterranean cultures"? Why doesn't she just come straight out and say, "I like Greek mythology, so I'm going to assume that British wizarding culture is a close cousin"? Also, um, I hate to say it but a fair amount of the pro-homosexual stuff in classical Greek culture was because women weren't typically regarded as useful or even much more than a nuisance (quite literally; Pandora, the first woman, was given as a curse, not a blessing). I love women, so it grates me fiercely when people ignore details like that as they fantasize about ancient cultures.

Second of all, hatin' on Christmas for being a holiday stolen from the Wiccans? Oh, Azure Tambourine, I'm so sorry, but Christmas on December 25 was established based either on the Roman bruma--their date for the winter solstice--or on Dies Natali Solis Invicti, which is the traditional birthdate of the Roman god Sol Invictus (quite the popular cult when Constantine started his reforms, by the way). It's accrued a lot of different traditions over the last couple millennia, but don't let's pretend that the Vatican consulted with the druids about the date.

Lastly, she actually said one thing--exactly one--that I can agree with, and that is: Apparently, the idea of a platonic but deep friendship escaped people. God, there are so many shippers out there with exactly that blind spot--but that's a rant for my own space and time, when I find them. Yes, I know she meant it as a dead herring (proving that she doesn't believe it either), but really...
