It really is awful in learning the truth of people you once admired and had fun watching. Channel Awesome has been around for ten years and while only had discover NC in 2011 I was still enjoying the variety of videos on the site. I feel like I shouldn’t watch Doug’s videos because I would be giving them views and money.
Doug claims to not be on the business side of things, but he’s still a major part of it whether he wants to admit it or not. He still knew about stuff and was complacent in what Michaud, Ellis and “the groomer” did by either turning a blind eye or making the firing quiet in order to not damage the reputation of the site. That still bit them in the ass because the site’s reputation is already ruined and everyone on the internet wants nothing to do with them.
I watch a video with Marzgurl explaining about “the groomer” and why she and the others didn’t mention their name and not the Jane Doe's as well and she honestly didn’t know until she and the others were told. I really do believe her when she says that and I get why they didn’t say “the groomer’s” name, doing so would bring the victims to the light and the possibility of being attack by “the groomer’s” fans and victim-blaming. Channel Awesome, in their flimsy attempt at covering their own ass got the wrong Jane Doe and only got themselves into worse trouble because it revealed “the groomer” through the dates and the barely hidden name. It’s even worse when "the groomer”, for the last four years has been seen as a martyr to the point where the eulogy video is now in bad taste because Doug knew.
Honestly, at this point Doug is not going to salvage this by trying to defend himself and should just say “I’m sorry.” It’s going to be half assed and more of an attempt at sympathy but if he hadn’t realized the fighting it in the last three weeks than he needs to now.
In the end, while Channel Awesome has been fun watching it’s good that the worst of behind the scenes are out there and people don’t have to feel scared or manipulated or gaslit.
I want to be optimistic and think of other you tubers/reviewers that make good stuff. ElectricDragon505/ AniMat, Bobsheaux, Musical Hell, The Dom, Film Theory, Caleb Hyles, Malinda Kathleen Reese, Mother’s Basement, Anime America, Jonathan Young, Cayleigh Elise, and Rob Dyke.
