It wouldn't surprise me if Doug and Rob were advised to keep their heads down and not communicate with anyone about what was going on. It wouldn't be an unusual move (something similar happened when there was a snafu during the making of the Simple Wish review, where Mara Wilson was told that the Nostalgia Critic was saying mean stuff about her and Holly -- still the PR person then -- handled straightening it out while asking Doug and the fans chiming in to hold back so things didn't get more confused). The trouble is, whoever they have doing PR right now (probably Michaud) is only making things worse. So instead of things being sorted out, a public statement being made to cool things down, and then everyone moving on, the fans are madder than ever and the Walkers just look bad for not speaking up.

I heard about the lawyer as well. I suspect it's the former, for two reasons: first, because despite all the bullshit going down, a lot of people have said that Doug is a very, very nice person in general, so I can't see him independently pursuing legal action over the doc even if it WAS entirely a pack of lies, and second, because while it MIGHT not be possible to back everything in that doc up, I'm sure there's enough evidence for enough of it that it would not be worth the time and money to sue over it. (I'm also not entirely unconvinced that Holly's firing wasn't shady, and if I'm right, I imagine nobody would want a lawyer poking around that point.)
